My opinion is just that, an opinion. With animal research it is better to be safe than sorry. If it can either be replaced, refined, or reduced as much as possible it would be best; I guess, I can consider myself a minimalist? I hear it on the news all the time about extremist using violence to get their message across that they hate what researchers are doing, but aren’t they the ones hurting living beings too? Taunting kids because of their parent’s occupation, disturbing the peace, bombing houses? If they get their message across what will happen then? Our science will not progress as fast as it does with animal research. Do these people really love animals or do they just really hate people? Maybe one day our science will be advance enough to eliminate our usage of animals, but for now we have to make do with what we got. For more pro’s on animal testing click here.
The short list of a few examples of medical advancements found through animal testing:
- VACCINES- Anthrax, chicken pox, cholera, diphtheria, flu, influenza B, hepatitis A and B, measles, mumps, polio, rabies, rubella, smallpox, tetanus, whooping cough, yellow fever
- MEDICATIONS- Insulin, penicillin, streptomycin, anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, anticoagulants, chemotherapy, cyclosporine
- DEVICES- Pacemakers, artificial heart, artificial hip, artificial knee

I couldn't have said it better myself. I personally think that animals should be used ONLY for medical research and not for things that we would consider a "Luxury" such as cosmetics or cosmetic surgeries.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that the people who picket agains animal cruelty would go out of their way to make threats to the researchers and go as far as trying to bomb their homes or place of work. It makes you stop and think who is worst the researchers who are finding cures or these people who like you said are hunting the researchers.
At the end of the day everyone benefits from Animal Research whether they would like to admit it or not, everyone at one point or other has had a safe vaccine given to them, received some kind of treatment, or had some medication prescribed.
I agree with your decision for animals to be used for animal research if it is for a good cause, such as cures for any disease but to use them for cosmetic research that is not right. Animals being used for cosmetic research is a luxury for those companies, it is cruel for such having a low standard on these poor animals.
ReplyDeleteAbolitionist who go against animal research take their hatred beyond their beliefs of animal cruelty. It is wrong for them to attack families, homes, even researchers.
Animal research should be use for the benefit of a greater cause. Many vaccines and cures have been created for both human and animal benefits. I agree too, I can consider myself a minimalist for the sake of the animals. For those who are abolitionists not only do they harm the researchers and their families but prevent cures for those with diseases. Having beliefs and opinions shouldn't be acted upon when harming others, who are innovators of the medicine world!
ReplyDeleteThere's no denying the advances made with the help of animal research. Whether it is ethical or not, necessary or not, it will always depend on the opinions of others. I'm not completely okay with it but not so much against it that I would ban it.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how great the influence of what we eat or don't eat is on our health. This Syndrome id just one of many that can be caused by our daily diets.
